Description:

This course is designed to introduce participants to the philosophy and pedagogy of student centered classroom dialogue. Participants will learn how to design classroom lessons  that move instruction from  teacher-centered classrooms to student-driven learning.  Participants will learn a range of techniques for teaching students to listen, collaborate, explore, and construct essential questions and understandings from classroom activities and texts. Teachers will learn how to  implement Socratic Dialogue as well as the Harkness Pedagogy in a variety of  disciplines and will have the opportunity to  work with colleagues to plan lessons using these approaches.  This course is  appropriate for upper elementary  through high school teachers.
