Dear HUUSD Community,
On August 5, the school board met to hear from District administrators and the Harwood Union Education Association regarding Return to Learn (RTL) plans for the approaching 2020-2021 school year. After questions and discussion, the board approved a motion indicating that the HUUSD will implement a hybrid learning model. The directive will be in effect as long as the state mandates that all schools are in “Step 2.” This means HUUSD schools will reopen for students with the 1:4 model as originally planned. There will also be a fully remote option. Over the next weeks, administrators will further develop a timeline and metrics for gradually increasing in-person instruction with the possibility of more days of in-person as community health conditions allow. The meeting video is available here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCT269g8MOtbO8dGmOnAWX7g
Please join us for the remaining Reopening Q&A sessions on Monday, August 10, and Monday, August 17, both at 6:30 via Zoom, YouTube (HU Webapp channel) or MadRiver TV channel 245/45. Additionally, the HUUSD board will meet on Wednesday, August 19, at 6:00, to discuss updates on reopening plans. Information on these meetings can be found on our district website: huusd.org/board
For community members interested in ways to support HUUSD Return to Learn efforts:
The district is looking for substitute teachers and bus monitors. Both positions require a background check at a minimum. Application information can be found on the home page of the district website www.huusd.org
Many schools and teachers are looking for supplies for the changed learning environment and new protocols. Please keep an eye on weekly school newsletters and Front Porch Forum for ways in which you can contribute.
We appreciate your ongoing support to reopen our schools September 8th.
Respectfully,
The HUUSD Board
